Mark McConkie's Biography
Mark L. McConkie, author of over a hundred scholarly publications and presentations, has a background in
government and Church History. He has directed Holy Tours as well as The Trail of the Reformation Study Tour,
to recapture events of the Reformation and the coming forth of the English Bible, and to show how those events
influenced the American Revolution and laid the foundation for the Restoration of the gospel.
He has published four books for the LDS market, including the recent Remembering Joseph, which is the largest single repository of stories about the Prophet Joseph Smith in LDS literature. Professionally, Dr. McConkie has for more than twenty-five years been a member of the faculty of the Graduate School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado. During his tenure there, he served as the resident dean for five years. A member of the International Congress on Advances in Management, he earned the unprecedented honor of twice receiving their Leadership Award (in 2001 and 2002).
He has served on many community boards, lectured and consulted internationally in both the public and private sectors, is a member of The Academy of Management, and has been a member of the American Society for Public Administration and the International Organization Development Association.
Dr. McConkie has spoken widely for the Church Educational System in the Know Your Religion and BYU Campus Education Week programs. He has served as a bishop, counselor to the president of the Colorado Denver Mission, and stake president. He and his wife, Mary Ann Taylor McConkie, are the parents of nine children.
