Daily Itinerary
Day 1--Wed June 20
USA to Cancun, Mexico
Today we begin the journey of a lifetime as we fly from our various departure locations to Cancun, Mexico. Upon arrival we will take our comfortable, air-conditioned bus to our beautiful beachside hotel for dinner and a stay of two nights.

Day 2--Thu June 21
Chichen Itza, Mexico
We will have breakfast at our hotel, and then travel to the amazing ancient city of Chichen Itza for a stunning introduction to the Mayan world. This UNESCO World Heritage Site includes the famous observatory, the "baptismal font," the great ball court, the sacred well, the temple of Kukulcan (the Mayan name for Quetzalcoatl, the ancient great white god), the Temple of the Warriors, and the ancient "sacbe" (paved highway). Lunch will be provided. In the afternoon your time will be free to relax by the pool or enjoy the powdery white beach. Dinner will be provided at our hotel.

Day 3--Fri June 22
Tulum & Chetumal, Mexico
We will have breakfast, then check out of our hotel and go to the nearby site of Tulum, the only Mayan ruins on the seashore, being in such a beautiful cliff-side setting. At this site, which dates from the later Mayan period, we will see El Castillo Pyramid, the Temple of the Descending God (dedicated to the legendary god who came down to visit his people), and the Temple of the Frescoes, among other attractions. We will take some time for souvenir shopping, and then we will have the opportunity for swimming and snorkeling in the clear, warm ocean. We will then travel to Chetumal and visit the Mayan Museum, followed by check-in and dinner at our hotel.

Day 4--Sat June 23
Lamanai, Altun Ha & Belmopan, Belize
After breakfast at our hotel, we will cross the border into the delightful little country of Belize. From the village of Orange Walk, we will embark upon a thrilling boat ride up the New River to the isolated ruins of Lamanai. This was a city of considerable size, now engulfed by the jungle and its wildlife, in a beautiful setting aside the river. There is evidence of occupation as far back as 1600 B.C. with its greatest period being 400 B.C. to 100 A.D. Among other structures, we will climb the High Temple for a breathtaking view of the tropical rain forest. Our next stop will be the impressive ruins of Altun Ha, dating from 200 B.C., with various temples and plazas. We will have dinner and overnight at our hotel in the capital city of Belmopan.

Day 5--Sun June 24
Xunantunich,Belize & Flores, Guatemala
Following breakfast at our hotel we will enjoy a true highlight as we attend an LDS sacrament meeting with one of the local branches. From there we will visit the impressive ruins of Xunantunich, where most of the existing structures date from 200 A.D to 900 A.D. We will climb El Castillo Pyramid, which is over 130 feet tall, and enjoy a 360-degree view of the surrounding jungle, including far into Guatemala. We will also see some of the 25 other structures among the several plazas. Next we will cross the border into Guatemala, a country with a special spirit of culture, friendliness, and spirituality. We will stop to visit the home of a Mayan family, to see how they live and to try to leave some love and blessings (just a few dollars will help them tremendously). We will arrive at our hotel in Flores for dinner and overnight.

Day 6--Mon June 25
Tikal & Guatemala City, Guatemala
After breakfast in our hotel, we will have the incomparable experience of touring the ancient ruins of Tikal. These extensive ruins date from 600 B.C. to 900 A.D. and reveal the ancient Maya civilization in its splendor. We will visit the Great Plaza and its Temple of the Jaguars, and then climb Temple II. We will also see the Lost World Pyramid and Temples IV and V. We will have lunch at the site, a little time for shopping, and then return to Flores for a short flight to Guatemala City. Dinner and overnight will be at our hotel in Guatemala City.

Day 7--Tue June 26
LDS Temple, Kaminaljuyu & Guatemala City
Those who wish may have the opportunity to visit the LDS Temple, and possibly the MTC. After breakfast at our hotel, we will visit the ruins of Kaminaljuyu (proposed by some as part of the ancient city of Nephi), followed, as time allows, by fun stops at the National Relief Map, the huge Central Market, and the National Museum. We will then return to our Guatemala City hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 8--Wed June 27
Antigua, Patzicia, Iximche, & Lake Atitlan, Guatemala
We will have breakfast in our hotel and then travel a short distance to visit the cultural splendor of Antigua, the ancient Guatemalan capital. It has been intermittently destroyed by earthquakes but is still going strong. We’ll enjoy shopping, sightseeing, and visit the amazing jade factory and store. Next we will visit the unique highland town of Patzicía. One of the chapels here was destroyed in the 1976 earthquake, and we will discuss the amazing resulting events among missionaries and members. Next we will visit the Iximché ruins, where we may observe Mayan ceremonial worship, and then continue on to what some have called the most beautiful lake in the world, Lake Atitlán. Here we will have dinner and overnight at our hotel.

Day 9--Thu June 28
Lake Atitlan, Santiago Atitlan, La Democracia, Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa, Guatemala City
After breakfast at our hotel we will take a breathtaking boat ride to the village of Santiago Atitlán. You will never forget your experience in this village and as we visit the LDS chapel, the Catholic cathedral, the centuries-old market place, the Mayan god Maximón, and mingle among the Indians of the community. You will also be able to shop and bargain for rare treasures. Next we will board our bus and return to Guatemala City via sites that feature interesting artifacts, including the large Olmec heads at La Democracia and the culture museum at Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa. Our dinner and overnight will be at our hotel in Guatemala City.

Day 10--Fri June 29
Guatemala City to USA
We will have breakfast at our hotel and then head to the airport for our flights home, taking with us our memories of a life-changing adventure in the lands of the Book of Mormon.
