U.S.A. • Transatlantic flight to Tel Aviv, Israel
We will take flights from our various home cities, make transfers, and arrive the following day at the Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv, Israel, and travel to Haifa to check in to the Leonardo Haifa Hotel for the night.
Day 3:Sunday, March 17
Mount Tabor • Nazareth • Megiddo • Caesarea • Haifa
We will begin the day by visiting the German Templar Cemetery, where two early LDS missionaries and the first Latter-day Saint convert in Israel are buried in Haifa. After a view of the Baha’i gardens, we will travel down the Mediterranean coast and visit Caesarea Maritima to discuss important events mentioned in the New Testament. Our next stop will be Tel Megiddo to review the history and geography of biblical events there. From there we will drive through the hills of Galilee as we journey to Nazareth, where we will visit the Nazareth Village and discuss the early life of Jesus. If time allows, we will then cross the historic Jezreel Valley on our way to visit Mount Tabor, where we will take taxis to the top for a discussion of the Transfiguration. We will then drive to the Ein Gev Holiday Village for a two night stay.
Day 4: Monday, March 18
Sea of Galilee • Capernaum • Banias
Our day will begin with a morning boat ride on the Sea of Galilee from Nof Ginosar, after which we will see the Galilee boat. We will next visit Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ Galilean ministry, and the Mount of Beatitudes, where we will discuss the Sermon on the Mount. We will go on to Kiryat Shemona for lunch and then drive to the beautiful area of Banias, where the Savior discussed the promising of keys to Peter. In the afternoon, we will return to Ein Gev and enjoy swimming and relaxing on the beach of the Sea of Galilee.
Day 5:Tuesday, March 19
Qumran • Masada • Dead Sea • Jerusalem
Today we will depart early and travel south down the Jordan River Valley. We will drive near the Jericho area and discuss the important biblical events that occurred there. Our next stop is at Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. From there we will travel to the traditional site of the baptism of Jesus, travel on to Masada to see the museum, and take the tram up to the fortress, where we will recall a tragic event in Jewish history. At the Dead Sea we will enjoy a swim (float) and lunch at Ein Gedi. We will drive through the Judean wilderness and along the Wadi Kelt on our way to Jerusalem. We will check in to the Olive Tree Hotel in Jerusalem, for the rest of our tour.
Day 6:Wednesday, March 20
Jerusalem
We will stop on the Mount of Olives for an orientation view of this historic city, Jerusalem. We will then visit the Old City for a tour of the Rabbinic Tunnel and the Holy (Temple) Mount or Mount Moriah, ancient site of the temples of Solomon and Herod, now occupied by the magnificent Dome of the Rock and El Aksa mosques. This is where Gabriel opened the New Testament and where the Savior did most of His teaching when He was in Jerusalem. We will view Lion’s Gate and the Pool of Bethesda to recall the events recorded in John 5. We’ll also see the Sisters of Zion Convent, built on the site of the Antonia Fortress, where Pilate may have questioned Jesus. Walking along the Via Dolorosa, we will visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and then end our day by walking through Hezekiah’s Tunnel, a water system dating back to the time of Isaiah. After dinner, those who choose to may spend time shopping.
Day 7:Thursday, March 21
Bethlehem • Jerusalem
We begin the day by driving to Bethlehem to see the Church of the Nativity, including St. Jerome’s Grotto and Shepherds’ Field, to review the biblical events that occurred in this area. We will drive by the Knesset (Israel’s parliament) on our way to visit the Israel Museum, including the Shrine of the Book (Dead Sea Scrolls display) and the model city of Jerusalem to see how it looked near the time of Jesus. We will then drive through the Jewish ultraorthodox section of Mea Shearim on our way to Bethany—the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus—where we will see the traditional Tomb of Lazarus.
Day 8:Friday, March 22
Jerusalem
We will visit the traditional Upper Room—scene of the Last Supper, washing of feet, and the last teachings of Jesus to His disciples—and then visit St. Peter’s in Gallicantu, possible site of the cock’s crowing and the palace of Caiaphas. We will visit Golgotha, where Jesus was crucified, and see the Garden Tomb to sense and discuss the sacredness of the Resurrection. We will end the day at the Western Wall as we watch the Jewish people welcome in the Sabbath.

March 24
Amman • Jerash • Petra
This morning we will drive to the border crossing to enter the country of Jordan. We begin our touring by traveling along the highlands of Gilead, first arriving at the Jabbok River that crosses the territory of Gilead. It was here that Jacob wrestled with the angel and was given the name Israel. We will continue northward until we arrive at the ancient Greek–Roman city of Jerash. Jerash was a part of the Decapolis, was second in size to Damascus, and is known as the “City of a Thousand: Pillars.” It is one of the most complete ruins of any Greek–Roman city in the world. After visiting Jerash, we travel south through the ancient land of Moab and Petra to the region of Petra. We will check in to the Taybet Zaman Hotel for the night.
March 25
Petra • Mount Nebo • Amman
This morning we will drive to the entrance of the ruins of Petra, where we will either take horses (half the distance) or walk to the ruins of this “rose red city half as old as time.” This unique city, built out of sandstone by the Nabataeans, has beautiful temples and amphitheaters carved out of the cliffs which surround the hidden valley. We will visit the Treasury and other sites as time will allow. After leaving Petra, we will drive to Mount Nebo from which Moses first viewed the “promised land.” We will then travel through the ancient region of Moab and arrive in Amman, an ancient city of Old and New Testament times known as Philadelphia. If you do an Egypt option, we will board a flight to Egypt and land at Cairo International Airport in Heliopolis, Egypt, to check in for the evening at the International Stars Hotel. For those of us returning to the U.S.A., we will depart for the U.S. around 2:30 am March 26.
